Welcome to Central United Methodist Church set in the lovely, historic downtown Newberry.  We hope that you will join us any time for worship on Sundays at 9 am and 11 am with Sunday School at 10.  Children's Church occurs during the 9 am service.  We also have a vibrant and diverse Wednesday night schedule that includes dinner, Bible Study for all ages, Chancel Choir practice, and children's choir practice.

All Are Welcome!!!

A special session of the General Conference of The United Methodist Church will take place Feb. 23-26 in St. Louis.  General Conference is the only body authorized to speak on behalf of our denomination.  The fundamental work before this General Conference is how will we best structure ourselves for mission and ministry amidst theological differences on human sexuality.  All major Protestant denominations have previously struggled with this issue and survived.

The General Conference consists of 864 delegates equally divided between clergy and laity.  There will be 16 from our Annual Conference in SC.

A Commission On A Way Forward was authorized by the Council of Bishops to offer a plan on the topic at hand.  There are two additional plans and a number of amendments and petitions which are being addressed at the Conference related to human sexuality.  The details of each plan may change significantly by the conclusion of the Conference, and it is possible that none of the plans gain the necessary support to pass.  Even if a plan passes, it will take months to sort out the many implications of that plan.  Therefore, no one can speculate about what is still unknown.

Given the nature of the purpose of the Conference, there may be a news coverage, much of which will be sensationalized.  Do not be alarmed.  Once the new plan, if any, is approved, there will be settings to properly interpret the way forward as it was actually approved.

Whatever happens, Central Church will continue her great ministry as we have for so many years.  The work of the church will go on and I know you well enough that we will continue to love and care for all persons faithfully and in a Christ like manner.  Let us be in particular prayer for this vital gathering.

Children's Church at Central

God Says "You are Awesome!"  And we think so too! Children's Church is offered during the 9:00 a.m service for children ages 4 - through 3rd grade.  Children are invited to go to  Children's Church after the Children's Moments in the worship service.  In a unique worship space created just for them, children will be introduced to a child-friendly, discovery-oriented worship experience where they feel like they belong.  With a Children's Church, we at Central are sending the message that we care enough about our children to have their own worship service.  For more information, contact the church office.
